Here is the pretty amazing experience I had meeting Anastacia. Enjoy!! "It's So Amazing How You Came Into My Life" Well, it all starts in March of 2000. That's when the local radio station (WAEB, B104) began playing "I'm Outta Love." I instantly was a fan! I mean, how could you not be? Her voice is like one I have never heard before. I kept calling the radio station requesting "I'm Outta Love." Well, as fate would have it, that May the same radio station had a free concert featuring Anastacia, Eiffel 65, and Mandy Moore. Thanks to a very kind and generous DJ at the station, I was able to get front row seats. I got to the show really early. About 2 and 1/2 hours early. :) As I waited for the show to begin, I got to talk with the station director. He asked which artist I was really excited to see. I said, obviously, Anastacia! He asked if I would like to meet her. Of course I said YES!!!! So he took me backstage. As we were waiting, he got a call on his cell phone and it was someone telling him that Anastacia was on her way to the venue. Now you have to understand that I really didn't know what Anastacia looked like. I only saw her picture on the cover for the single of "I'm Outta Love." So the station director happened to ask if I knew what she looked like. I said, not really. He said I'd be pleasently surprised. Shortly after that, a big white stretch-limo pulled up. The door opened and Anastacia stepped out. My jaw immediately dropped. She was absolutely beautiful!!!! As Anastacia made her way towards me, there were fans outside the fence surrounding the backstage area, yelling for autographs. Anastacia made sure she stopped and signed everyone's CD, picture, poster, whatever. I thought that was really cool. I'm sure not many artists, or many celebrities for that matter, would have done the same. Anyway, while Anastacia did that, I did my best to calm down a bit. As luck would have it, I was the last one to meet her. I was still pretty darn nervous, but she was extremely easy to talk with. She asked what my name was, it took me a second to remember. :) She signed an 8x10 picture for me and as she was signing it, under my breath I said, "Man! She's pretty!" Now I didn't intend for her to hear me say that, but she did! She stopped writing, looked up at me with a look that would melt ANY man's heart and said, "Thank you so much!" Well, I'm sure my face turned as red as my hair. :) Then she asked where I was sitting. I told her in the front row. She said, "Perfect." I didn't know at the time why she asked that, other than just making conversation, but I soon found out. Then we posed for a picture and just before she left to go onstage, she said, "It was a pleasure meeting you, Chris" and she kissed me on the cheek!! Now how awesome is that?! So I returned to my spot in the front row, still in a little daze from her kiss, just as she took the stage. She opened with "Not That Kind," followed by "Who's Gonna Stop The Rain." I had never heard these songs before and I obviously had never heard Anastacia sing live and in person. Well, I was simply blown away! Her voice is stronger and even more mesmerizing in person than on CD. Then she did "I'm Outta Love," which everyone in the capacity crowd went nuts over. Towards the end of the song when she sings, "And, you can't handle me," she stood right in front of me, looked me dead in the eyes, and pointed right at me as she sang that verse. I just smiled, nodded my head and looked at her like, give me a chance to handle you. She gave me a big smile and a little wink as she walked off stage. Now I think I understand why she asked where I was sitting. Anyway, the crowd was yelling and screaming for an encore, which by the way was the only artist that night they did that for. She came back out and did a gospel song, acapella style. Well, that just brought the house down.
From that day forward, I've been trying to tell everyone about Anastacia and
collect her music and anything else I can find. I know I don't have every
single CD she's ever made or anything, but I do have a fairly decent collection
(16 CDs to be exact and 2 DVDs). Anyway, that night will forever be one of
the greatest nights of my life!!!! Unfortunately, that night in May of
2000 is the only time I've ever seen her in concert. :( I'm a member
of her official fan club and I actually won a chance to go to her "Love Is
A Crime" video shoot in New York City, but they didn't call me until less
than 24 hours before hand. Being in a wheelchair, on a ventilator and
everything, like I am, it was impossible for me to swing it with such short
notice. You can imagine my extreme disappointment. So, I'm just
hoping and praying for one more chance. Here are pictures from that amazing night. I hope you like them. Click on a picture to enlarge
