Deeper Side
A wonderful Mark Bryan rocker that survived the test of time (it was written 4 years ago) and a nice Don Was makeover during the recording of this CD. In sequencing the album it was on everyone's list as the perfect opening track.

Little Brother
The greatest moment from this recording was being a part of about 8 guys standing around one microphone trying to sing the background vocals in tune 'and' with soul...the only problem was that it was mostly white guys! Thanks to Woody Harrelson for being there to sing and make us laugh.

Innocence
When Dean brought this to the band we all seemed to jump onto the same page immediately. It didn't take long while sitting in our Columbia office together, to successfully collaborate on what is one our most heartfelt songs.

Space
Recording this song was one of the liveliest 2 minutes we achieved at Beacon St. It was probably 9:30pm, with a dozen friends chillin' on the couch 10 feet away, all of them talking during the entire take, when we finally nailed it. Darius thinks it's the meanest song we've ever written. Dean, who brought it in, is unavailable for comment...haha.

I'll Come Runnin’
We haven't built a song around one 'bass-riff' since we wrote "Not even the trees" in 1994 in L.A. But when Dean started playing this cool bass line back in September of 2001, it was so motivating that we wrote an entire song (thanks to Darius) based around that line. The events of 9/11 shaped the lyrical meaning of the song.

Tears Fall Down
This was a tune that didn't make the cut for our Musical Chairs album. The fact that it lived 'four' more years which allowed Don Was to create such an ethereal 3 minutes, was a blessing.

The Rain Song
Another tune that we talked about recording a long time ago. After seeing our friends, 'The Continental Drifters', perform this song for many years, we finally got our act together and recorded it ourselves. How we'll ever recreate those background vocals live is another question. Special thanks to Susan and Vicki for that bit of heaven.

Show Me Your Heart
Mark took the basis of one of Dean's late 90's songs and revived it lyrically and musically. This was a great 'live' take from early in the Beacon St. sessions in Venice,CA. We're all still trying to figure out what Mark meant by, "Chocolate Rose".

When She's Gone
Just more proof that the only motivation I need to write a song is "pain". It's a very personal song that Darius took to another level with his vocal gift. Emily Salier's background vocals are an angelic frosting on this cake.

Little Darlin'
What could have been just another country rock song, ended up an experiment in loops, samples, and a new respect for 'Fat Boy Slim'. The moral of the story is: Be careful what path you let Don Was take you down, because you just might like it.

Woody
Sometimes we try very hard to fix songs that don't need fixing. After dragging this song through that process, we realized that Darius actually wrote a "great song" that didn't need to be fixed.

Go And Tell Him (Soup Song)
One of the earlier songs we wrote for the record. Nothing else feels as good as this to play on stage. Mark brought the core of the song to us and we tried as hard as we could not to screw it up. I hope it sounds as 'live' on the CD as it did when we recorded it in Venice.
